KPSC Kerala Administrative Service Examination is the most prestigious competitive examination conducted in Kerala. Kerala Public Service Commission takes care of the statewide test for the recruitment of eligible candidates to the higher civil services in Kerala. Despite being one of the most challenging exams, Kerala Administrative Service exam can be cracked with proper and smart planning.

KPSC selects the eligible candidates via a three-step examination process.

  1.  Preliminary exam-objective type
  2.  Main exam- descriptive
  3.  Interview or personality test

A candidate who qualifies for all three exams will be appointed to Kerala Administrative Services. Each exam acts as an elimination test and candidates should have an integrated study approach to crack all three tests.

Preliminary examination 

The preliminary examination is conducted for 200 marks and consists of two papers named General Studies 1 and General Studies 2. The marks obtained by the candidates in the prelims determine their selection for the main examination. The marks obtained by the candidates in both  GS1 and GS2 are combine together for the cut-off. Candidates clearing the prelims cut off can write the main examination.

There is a penalty of ⅓ marks for every wrong marking in the preliminary examination. The preliminary exam is conducted only for the screening purpose and the marks obtained in the prelims will not be added to the final marks.

The Mains Examination which follows a descriptive method will have 3 papers, each of 100 marks.

 Interview or personality test:

Candidates clearing the mains stage will be evaluated in a board interview where the personality of the candidate is put to test. Maximum marks that a candidate can attain in the interview stage is 50.
