Kerala PSC has released the recruitment notification for the post of High school teachers (HSA) in various subjects. Including Mathematics, Natural Science and Social Science. Eligibility, Salary scale, Vacancy and Age for HST

Candidates aged between 18 and 40 and born between 02.01.1981 and 01.01.2003 (Both dates included) are eligible to apply for the post of HST. (Other Backward Communities and SC/ST candidates are eligible for usual age relaxation.)

Educational Qualification: Candidates should possess a degree and B.Ed./BT in the subject either concerned or conferred or recognized by the Universities in Kerala. 

To apply for this post candidates must have passed the Kerala Teacher Eligibility Test (K-TET) Exemption: Candidates who have qualified CTET/NET/SET/M.Phil/Ph.D in the respective subjects and M.Ed in any subject are exempted from acquiring TET.

Salary scale: 29200-62400/-(PR)

Vacancy: A separate rank list is prepared for each district. There are vacancies in every district that is not yet estimated by Kerala PSC. Shortlisted candidates will be appointed against the vacancies reported during the validity of the rank list.

  • Candidates should complete the one-time registration with the official website of Kerala PSC before applying for the post.
  • Registered Candidates shall apply by logging on to their profile using the User –ID and password.

What is the exam pattern for High School Teacher (HST) / High School Assistant (HSA) 2021?

A statewide written/OMR/Online Test is conducted for the post and a separate rank list is prepared for each district. There will be 100 questions for100 marks. Each right answer will give you one mark while each wrong answer will lead you to a penalty of 1/3 marks. The total duration of the exam is 75 minutes.

The exam consists of two parts, part A and part B. Part A is a common paper and part B is the core subject (History). 

Part A – 20 Marks

  • Module I: Renaissance and freedom movement 
  • Module II: General Knowledge and Current Affairs 
  • Module III: Methodology of teaching the subject 

Part B – Core subjects – 80 Marks

       The initial step you should follow when you set about for the preparation is to go through the syllabus. Examine the syllabus thoroughly and collect the materials required. Keep a copy of the syllabus with you and mark the topics you have covered so far, also revise them regularly. Sticking on to the syllabus helps you to study what is exactly needed. There is no use if you know so many things unless you cover the syllabus perfectly.

Analyse Previous Year Question papers

Previous year’s questions help you to nurture your knowledge in a short period. You can refer to the previous year’s LDC, LPSA, UPSA, and HSA question papers while keeping in mind the current syllabus.

Books & Materials for HSA/ HST Exams

For teaching positions, the exam conducted by Kerala PSC depends on the SCERT textbooks. If you check the syllabus, you can observe that most of the basic topics are taken from SCERT textbooks. Read the SCERT and NCERT textbooks from 5th to 12th Standards and prepare your notes and also make value addition from other standard books and materials based on the syllabus and previous questions.
